Educational Philosophy

The philosophy of Rose City Cooperative Preschool is respect and love for individual children, their unique personalities, and the factors that have made them special human beings. We believe three and four year olds can best grow and learn through creative play. The equipment and atmosphere of the classroom permits each child to explore a wide variety of experiences at each child’s own pace and areas of interest. The child is encouraged to try new skills and expand new interests within a framework of discovery.

We believe the preschool is a first time “on my own” experience when the child begins to discover “who I am.” Since impressions of ourselves usually come from reactions of others, we try to instill respect for themselves and others around them. We help each child learn to respect others in play situations so the “group plan” will achieve optimum results. With love and patience, we encourage each child to reach out and experience close, wholesome relationships. We try to build self-confidence and self-respect by showing the child love and acceptance. We consider these goals to have the highest priority in your child’s preschool experience.

Our preschool is a cooperative. As a cooperative, parents come to school regularly, not to visit, but participate and observe. By doing this, parents learn about their child and other children, see their child and his/her problems in a truer perspective, and observe other adults and their methods of working with preschoolers.

Rose City Cooperative Preschool is a place where children and parents learn together.
