The following are brief descriptions of different job assignments needed
to run the preschool. Each family is required to either serve on the board
or select one of the following jobs. A more detailed job description and
helpful hints will be distributed in your job assignment notebook at a
later date.
1. NEWSLETTER EDITOR, STARS CLASS - BOARD POSITION -
Work with the Rainbow Class Editor to craft and format RCCP’s monthly
newsletter, which publishes information from various sources and art from
various student artists, as well as a monthly teacher’s column.
Board positions do require regular attendance at monthly board meetings
and at the open house for prospective families in spring.
2. DRAMATIC PLAY AREA COORDINATOR - One position
each class.
Coordinate dramatic play area with teacher to compliment monthly learning
themes. Be creative! Collect materials needed by asking for donations
or making purchases. Help teacher set up and take down each month.
3. SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATOR - One position each
class.
Work with teacher and hospitality person to plan holiday programs and
other special events for families. Coordinate classroom speakers.
4. HISTORIAN - One position each class.
Make a memory yearbook for each child, one for the teacher and one for
the classroom to be distributed at the end of the year. Use your own camera
to take pictures of the children at special events, field trips and in
the classroom. Maintain film supply, if your camera isn’t digital.
Receive support from Historian Assistant. Meet with Assistant to determine
a plan or strategy for yearbook compilation and the coordination of photography
coverage. Maintain a budget for the project. Note that all expenses will
be reimbursed by the Treasurer. The 4’s class historian is responsible
for coordinating school pictures by a professional photographer.
5. HISTORIAN ASSISTANT - One position each class.
Assist historian in compiling a memory yearbook for each child. Use your
own camera to take pictures of the children at special events, on field
trips and in the classroom. Meet with Historian to determine a strategy
and breakdown of responsibilities of yearbook preparation and compilation.
6. PARENT HELP / MONTHLY CLEAN-UP COORDINATOR - One
position each class. Post monthly calendar for parent helping, keep
track of how often each family parent helps, making certain the calendar
is full for the next month. Make sure the monthly clean-up is full for
the year. Remind work crews of their shifts. (Note: 4’s Coordinator
arranges sign-up of Rainbow families for initial classroom set-up. The
3’s Coordinator posts sign-up for Stars families to breakdown and
store classroom in May.)
7. TELEPHONE / CHILDCARE COORDINATOR - One position
each class.
Responsible for the passage of any special information from the board
or teacher to families in your class. Contact the families in your class
before all general meetings and determine which families need childcare.
Arrange for baby-sitters and provide transportation, if necessary, to
and from the preschool on those evenings. Responsible for collecting money
from parents and paying baby-sitters. One childcare coordinator will remain
in the class with the children and sitters to provide additional supervision.
Make sure the classroom is left clean upon departure.
8. SCRIP ASSISTANT - One position from the 4’s
class.
Assist scrip board member by administering scrip program within your class.
Inform families of scrip process at the beginning of the year. Collect
money for scrip and distribute scrip to families. (You may need to occasionally
pick up scrip from the facility in Tigard.)
9. CLASSROOM PREPARATION - One position only.
Prepare materials for classroom projects. Teresa will provide a monthly
list of materials needed.
10. CLASS ARTIST - One position only.
Make name tags in late August for each child. Set up monthly bulletin
boards, posters, mobiles, etc. pertaining to the month’s learning
unit. Be responsible for the Children’s Art Gallery (bulletin board).
Occasionally make banners, signs and posters for meetings, basement sale
and special events.
11. WAYS AND MEANS ASSISTANT - One position from
3’s class.
In charge of ordering preschool T-shirts, plates and mugs. Assist Ways
and Means as needed in fund raising events.
12. CLASSROOM SHOPPER / FIX-IT-PERSON - One position
only.
Purchase items for preschool special events (art, office, party supplies
or grocery items). Costco members preferred. You will be reimbursed promptly
by the Treasurer. Fix toys and classroom items that need repair.
13. ZOOKEEPER - One position only.
Maintain classroom pets (rabbit, snake, walking sticks, etc.) Feed them
and clean their homes. Maintain food supply. Work with teacher to find
vacation and summer homes, if necessary.
14. HOSPITALITY - One position from 4’s class.
Arrive 30 minutes prior to general meeting to set up coffee and refreshments.
Supervise sign-up for refreshments. Set up table and chairs as needed
for meeting. Remain after meetings to put away tables and chairs. Work
with teacher and special events coordinator to plan December programs
and other events for families.
15. ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES - One position from 4’s
class.
With teacher, set up program for recycling in the classroom. Regularly
take items to be recycled at either your home or area recycling center.
Take aprons, towels, etc. to be laundered on Friday and return on Monday.
16. LIBRARIAN / BOOK CLUB - One position only.
Oversee classroom library. Keep inventory of all books, records and tapes.
Make repairs as needed. Change circulating books according to monthly
theme. Teresa will provide a monthly list. Manage book club orders, including
distributing forms to families, collecting orders and passing out books
to families. Track bonus points. Coordinate the book fair at Winterfest,
which involves a book display and sales.
17. LUNCH BUNCH ASSISTANT - One position from 4’s
class.
Availability to act as an occasional substitute teacher for Lunch Bunch
program, which meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 - 1:00 p.m. in
the classroom and downstairs in Youngson Hall. Assist teacher with some
possible record keeping. Note: Lunch Bunch is an optional extended
program for Rainbow children only.
